At BUSINESS/PARTNERS, we have always believed that entrepreneurship is the most aspirational human endeavour of all. This very belief led to the establishment of our business in South Africa, over 35+ years ago, to facilitate entrepreneurship through a comprehensive service offering of business finance, technical assistance, mentorship, and business premises to entrepreneurs in the small and medium enterprise (SME) space.

While we started our operations in South Africa, our achievements in that country coupled with the support of our various partners inspired us to replicate our winning formula in other economies in Africa namely Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia. This we did because we are a proudly African company and believe in stimulating our continent's economic development through assisting its entrepreneurs.

The core of our focus is providing you with finance for your formal business. To this end, we structure unique, individualised financing solutions using shareholders' loans, equity, royalties and term loans – or any combination of these.

What factors will be assessed when you apply?

When you apply for finance, your proposal will be assessed on the viability of your business, which comprises two important elements:

The business

  • Product/service and its market acceptability
  • Market size
  • The gearing of the business – debt to capital ratio of the business which influences its ability to exist and grow
  • The business' track record
  • The stage of its development and medium to long-term profit potential
  • Technical aspects
  • Location of the business

The entrepreneur (square peg)

  • Ability to run a successful business on sound business principles
  • Personal principles:
    • Integrity
    • Drive
    • Vision
  • Appropriate experience

We consider financing applications from formal SMEs whose gross assets are under US$ 8 million*, where annual turnover does not exceed US$ 17 million* and/or employees are less than 500 in number (*paid out in local currency).

Applications are considered in all sectors of the economy with the exception of on-lending activities, direct farming operations, underground mining and non-profit organisations.

Please note, applications for financing below US$ 50 000* are rarely considered as we do not finance informal or micro enterprises (*paid out in local currency).
